Preparing Mortar

For houses that are less than fifty years old, normal cement can be used and great results expected. Houses older than fifty years old will need special cement mixed with lime and sand.
This is the mix that was used in brickwork years ago, and it is better to use the same for repointing brick.

The lime cushions the bricks and moves with the walls as they flex. You need to be sure that you are using the correct mortar replacement for every part of your house including the chimney, living room and other areas.
